Luke & Sarah Stewart (Alaska)

Field Ministries Representative / Anchorage, AK

What is unique to your role at The Friends of Israel?

From Alaska, our family stands with God’s Chosen People through involvement in Jewish community events, teaching Hebrew in local churches, engagement trips to Israel, and representing Israel’s story to Alaska’s people. Our family also enjoys publicly supporting the local Jewish population, however, we can. Whether it is Sukkah building, running a booth to make toy dreidels, or driving a boat for a Jewish day camp, we want them to know they are not without friends. The body of Messiah in Israel (Jewish and Arab) has enormously encouraged our family. We want to spread that encouragement to Alaska, especially to Alaska’s indigenous peoples, through trips to Israel, where they can engage with the land and the people. We aim to build a bridge from Alaska to Israel to benefit both peoples spiritually.

What inspires you most to do what you do for FOI?

I am inspired by what the Bible says about my identity and future as a Christian intertwined with Israel as per the Abrahamic, Davidic, and the New covenants. This motivates me to publicly support them and share about the Messiah.

What is one bit of wisdom you have for those who want to share the love of the Messiah with others?

I try to exemplify the love of Messiah in all of my interactions with Jewish people, similar to what I do with non-Jewish people. If sincere, it tears down negative Christian and Jewish history and earns you, or another Christian, a platform to speak to that person.

What Scripture compels you the most to do what you do?

Genesis 12:1-3 is very compelling. This shows that my ministry contributes to God’s sovereign plan for the Jewish people everywhere, including the land of Israel. It also shows that, while doing this, I am under God’s security and blessing. Furthermore, Israel is the channel for the blessings that I have from Abraham’s descendant, Jesus of Nazareth. I am honored to show Israel a return for these blessings.

Who is the most influential person in your spiritual life?

My former pastor, who discipled me, has had the most influence on me. Under his ministry, I grew in understanding Scripture and understood what the Christian life should be like. He also spoke highly of God’s help for Israel during the wars since statehood. So under his influence, I understood, “God has not cast off His people whom He foreknew."

What books have you read (other than the Bible) that have impacted your spiritual life most?

Hudson Taylor In Early Years: The Growth of a Soul by Dr. & Mrs. Howard Taylor.
