Roy Hiebert (Canada)

Church Ministries Representative / Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

What is unique to your role at The Friends of Israel?

Past ministry opportunities included Pastor, Chaplain at a Christian addiction rehab centre as well as work in inner city ministry and prison visitation. I recently took FOI’s ‘Bridges’ program and their three month internship. Five trips to Israel and years of attending Friends of Israel events have helped equip me to actively pursue various teaching and preaching activities with Friends of Israel Gospel Ministry Canada. I am looking forward to serving wherever opportunities arrive in the Jewish community, the churches and among the Gentiles.

What inspires you most to do what you do for FOI?

It is the Bible, God’s holy, infallible, unalterable word that inspires to pursue ministry opportunities. The gospel of Christ is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Gentile (Romans 1:16). Knowing that the word of God does not return void makes it so much easier to speak His truth to the world (Isaiah 55:11).

What is one bit of wisdom you have for those who want to share the love of the Messiah with others?

The Creator of the universe is longsuffering, not wanting that any should perish. Patience, while leaning on Jesus, is what will attain results in the long run.

What Scripture compels you the most to do what you do?

Proverbs 3:5 reminds me daily to trust in the Lord with all my heart and lean not on my own understanding. Micah 5:2 tells me that out of Bethlehem will come the One to be the Ruler of Israel, whose going forths are from of old, from everlasting. The Messiah of Israel is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end (Isaiah 41:4; Revelation 1:8; 22:12-13).

What books have you read (other than the Bible) that have impacted your spiritual life most?

I do like autobiographies and have been blessed by books by Corrie Ten Boom and Zvi Kalisher. They speak in practical terms of how to live, love and laugh even in the midst of the most trying circumstances.

Who is the most influential person in your spiritual life?

My God fearing grandfather led me to the Lord in 1982 and my mother’s unwavering love for knowing more about Jesus were two early influences in my life. John Plantz has been a great friend and mentor in recent years. His words, “L-rd, what would you have me say or do?” are a constant reminder of where my reliance needs to be.
